Is Intermittent Fasting The Answer?

I have been into the diet & nutrition world since I was 4 years old. I had to do my 1st diet back then for my first Taekwondo competition in Greece. Throughout the years I’ve tried different diet plans and approaches in order to stay lean for my sport back then, and I’ve also tried a lot after quitting my athletic career. After quitting I gained 38kg in total and when I took the decision to start losing weight, I wanted to find the easiest way to do it.

I started doing research parallel to cutting down calories and that was the point I stepped on the world of Intermittent Fasting. Although I covered 2 more articles about fasting, I will be writing only my personal experience and opinion in this one. Intermittent fasting does not help you lose weight faster or better compared to any other method! There you have it. Just like every other diet in order for it to work you need to be in a calorie deficit. It’s like not fasting but being in a deficit you will lose the same amount of fat and weight.

I tried every model fom 16:8 (eating in a 8 hour window and fasting for 16), 5:2 (eating 5 days normally and 600-700 calories 2 days per week), 24hour fasting (not eating for a day) and I tried every one of them for 3 to 4 weeks consecutively. To be honest, I didn’t see any dramatic changes. In fact I saw more changes whilst not fasting then while fasting.

There is in fact one thing that Intermittent Fasting gave me that no other diet gave me and that is discipline. The discipline to eat in a specific window, to eat specific foods whilst fasting or not fasting and in general being consistent on my plan. After acquiring this kind of mindset and ethic, everything else is easy and simple. If you are going to give Fasting a shot please make sure it is for you because it really isn’t for everyone and if you believe it’s like a magic pill, well it doesn’t. Stay tuned for a new article backed by the latest science behind fasting!

Hope you enjoyed it and found it helpful,
