10 Things To Avoid When Losing Weight-Part 2/2 (10#)

As time passes by I see more and more people starting their own weightloss journey and the truth is, I know beforehand that 95% of them will fail. In the previous article, we saw together 5 things to avoid when starting a weight-loss journey. Today we are continuing from where we left off, to the next 5 tips.

  1. Strict Dieting. It’s crazy how people believe that they can change their habits and throw out the window the foods they enjoy and love to lose weight. Some people have the discipline to do it, but once they lose weight, they put it all back because they want to enjoy the foods they once tasted daily. I’ve seen people do all sorts of crazy things from becoming vegan, and going keto, to cutting out certain food groups, all in the name of weight loss. Allow me to remind you that the easy part is to lose weight. The hard part is to keep it off for the rest of your life. So when starting out a diet, start a diet without cutting food groups or categories but, by putting everything in balance and finding some alternatives to make your food taste amazing, with less fat and calories, and more protein. The best diet is the one you can follow for the rest of your life!

  2. Empty stomach cardio. This is a crazy one and I have to admit I tried it for myself in order to give you a better explanation of it. Doing fasted cardio has no extra benefits and you are definitely not burning only fat when doing so. You also burn muscle since your muscle glycogen is depleted and you need energy to workout. Another thing is that you lose your first window for muscle protein synthesis. When you don’t have energy and you go for a workout your organism wants to preserve itself thus getting into a survival mode where you move less, burn less and fatigue easier. If you have a rich in protein and some carbs breakfast, you will have more energy thus burning more calories in the same amount of time. The point is to be in a caloric deficit at the end of the day.

  3. Not lifting weights or changing your weight training. Lifting weights is not about losing fat, that is a myth and you need to get it out of your mind. Cardio is for burning fat (medium steady-state cardio is the best form). The point of weight-lifting is to build muscle and increase your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) in the long term.

  4. Not enough sleep. I believe this is self explanatory. Sleeping enough is one of the key ingredients for your body to rebuild, rest and do so many important procedures like hormone balance etc. Take your sleep more seriously cause the holy grail of getting in shape and being health is nutrition, sleep and exercise.

  5. Abuse fat burners. Allow me to tell you that I have tried everything natural in existance due to my professional athletic background. You don’t need them and please don’t use them. Especially on day 1. If you hit a plateau and believe you need an extra boost in your weight-loss journey then yes you can try them out, but in any other circumstance, avoid them.
