Does a low carb diet aid in more fat loss?
I've been long enough around the nutrition and fitness world to observe that, many people demonise carbs when it comes to fat loss, as if they are the enemy. Does a low carb diet actually work better for fat loss? The simple answer is..no! Allow me to explain why.
Carbs is the primary source of energy for our bodies as well as...the only for our brain! Lack of carbohydrates in a diet messes up with mood, energy levels, overall psychology and recovery. If you do not have carbs for your body to burn and use for energy, it will turn to protein and muscle for energy before moving on to fats.
Then you may ask how the hell do we lose fat? From a calorie deficit. It's always been simple math yet everyone wants the magic answer and the magic pill. Long term studies have shown that as long as you consume enough protein, in a calorie deficit, the amount of carbs and fats in your diet won't affect muscle loss. By that I mean the ratio at which you will lose fat won't change if your carbs or fats are higher or lower.
What changes on a low carb diet is the ability of your body to hold water, thus, you will lose a large amount of water weight, not fat!
